God’s Grace for Lost, Broken and Rebellious People
Ruth 1
April 21, 2024
Have you ever looked at your life when things seemed to be falling apart because of your sin and bad decisions and thought to yourself, “Where do I go from here?”. Maybe you wondered if there was any hope? Tucked away in the Old Testament is a small book with just 85 verses that is one of the greatest stories in all the Bible that shows us God’s redeeming love, his generous kindness, and his amazing grace for lost, broken and rebellious people like you and me. Ruth is the true love story between a Gentile Moabite woman named Ruth and a Jewish man named Boaz who chooses to be her kinsman redeemer to marry her to bring to her and her mother-in-law Naomi, blessing and renewal after so much had been lost in their life. This love story of generosity and kindness is a picture of God’s redeeming love for his people because Jesus is our kinsman redeemer who is generous, kind, and bought us back to himself at the cross because of love.
Wandering, Rescuing, Returning
James 5:19-20
April 14, 2024
Everything James has said in his letter was to put meaning and understanding to what it looks like to truly follow Jesus. You get the sense that his prayer is that those who read his letter would latch on to Jesus with all their heart and stay with Jesus. That their faith would be real and not in name only. As James closes his letter, it is fitting that he would end it by talking about the wanderer. This is when someone doesn’t latch on to Jesus and stay with him. When one wanders away. James understands that this happens. It happened then and it still happens today. So James calls on the rest of us to go after the wanderer. To wander away from Jesus as the truth for all of life, is to put oneself in the most dangerous position one could be in. In this message we aim to powerfully explore, wandering, rescuing, and returning to Jesus.
Permeating Prayer
James 5:16-18
April 07, 2024
In the book of James, his pastoral heart has been guiding believers to see what the life of a true follower of Christ looks like. He has been laying out before them, Real Faith. As he winds down his letter, he is now helping them to see that the Christian life is one of permeating prayer. His specific focus has been on reminding them to go to God in prayer in all of the troubles in life, when they are weak physically (or spiritually), when sin involved, and also to pray for each other as we seek forgiveness of one another. Finally he reminds them to believe that prayer does accomplish much. In this message we seek to continue to be encouraged to build a life of permeating prayer knowing that prayer is powerful and effective.
