Ben & Cathy Bidelspach
China Outreach Ministries (COM) at Penn State

COM’s Vision: Giving Christ to China’s Future Leaders.

Ben & Cathy Bidelspach have been serving the Lord for 12 years as campus workers with China Outreach Ministries reaching out to the students, scholars and their families who are studying here at Penn State University. They feel that the Lord has truly called them to this strategic ministry and has prepared the hearts of many Chinese to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. There are about 2,000 Chinese in the State College area. Many new students and researchers arrive each year, while others complete their studies and leave Penn State. At least half of these will return to China.

Cathy is a full-time missionary to the Mainland Chinese students, but Ben also gives many of his evenings and weekends to the ministry. They share God’s love and build relationships with many Chinese through English classes, picnics, parties, sightseeing trips, children’s programs and activities for the visiting parents. Hundreds hear the gospel and many attend regular Bible studies and become Christians.

PFBC has supported the Bidelspachs’ ministry in many ways. Besides regular financial support, PFBC has opened its doors for them to hold English classes, Bible studies, and big holiday parties. Did you know that they would like to help you get more personally involved? There are several opportunities which do not require much time. If you love the Lord and want to show that love to others, he may be calling you to volunteer in one of the following ways:

  • Provide childcare for preschoolers during the regular school year for the English class or Bible study on Thursday or Friday mornings at the church.
  • Play games with elementary aged children during the summer for the English class or Bible study on Thursday or Friday mornings at the church.
  • Provide transportation for Chinese children to attend PFBC's Vacation Bible School.
  • Be a friendship partner for a Chinese individual or family. It is easy to become friends with these internationals who are so eager to practice their English and learn more about American culture.
  • Help with the food preparation for a picnic or party.
  • Invite a student or family to join your family for a meal or special event.

If you would like to volunteer in any way or have suggestions or questions, please call Cathy at (814) 867-5147, or send an e-mail to bxb29@psu.edu.
